Disability Scholarships and Funding

The SGS Accessibility Grant supports significant educational expenses not normally covered by the student, the graduate unit, provincial, or federal agencies.

Ontario Bursary for Students with Disabilities (BSWD) and the Canada Student Grant for Services and Equipment for Students with Disabilities (CSG-DSE)

Anti-Ableist Research Fund - small grants from U of T's Centre for Global Disability Studies, adjudicated twice per year. 

June Opie Fellowship The June Opie Fellowship is available annually to Canadian students with severe disabilities who will be attending post-graduate studies. 

CNIB Post-Secondary Scholarships & Bursaries CNIB post-secondary scholarships help support people who are blind or partially sighted in their educational journeys.

NEADS National Student Awards Program The NEADS National Student Awards Program is offered to encourage full access to postsecondary education for persons with disabilities, who often have higher costs and greater barriers to participation in higher education.

Doreen Kronick Scholarship The Doreen Kronick Scholarship (DKS) may be awarded to a person who is pursuing a program of graduate study in a university that will assist learning-disabled students.

The BMO Capital Markets Lime Connect Equity Through Education Scholarship provides funding for students with disabilities.

APUS Bursaries Recognizing that part-time students face barriers to accessing funding from governmental and institutional programs, APUS bursaries are available to part-time undergraduate students on all three campuses of the University of Toronto. 

Epilepsy Toronto Bursaries, Scholarships & Awards 

The Emmy Duff Scholarship is open to Canadian students who have had treatment (or are currently being treated) for cancer currently residing in Canada.

Canadian Hearing Services National Scholarship Program Canadian Hearing Services (CHS) offers scholarships to Deaf and hard-of-hearing students to help break down financial barriers to participation and support the extra costs associated with accommodations in a higher learning environment.

Spinal Cord Injury Canada Scholarships

The 2023 AEBC and Allyant Scholarship Program offers scholarships recognizing outstanding blind, deafblind, and partially sighted post-secondary students.

Crohn’s and Colitis Canada’s AbbVie IBD Scholarship Program supports students in achieving their academic goals while they make a lasting and meaningful difference in their communities.

The Practical Intervention Fund supports disabled students living in the UK to access opportunities for self-care and rest.

The Medieval Academy of America's (MAA) Inclusivity and Diversity Research Grant is granted annually to a scholar, at any stage in their career, who seeks to pursue innovative research that will broaden the scope of medieval studies.

The MAA Inclusivity and Diversity Travel Grant is granted to one Annual Meeting participant presenting an accepted presentation on the study of diversity and inclusivity in the Middle Ages (broadly conceived) at any session of the MAA Annual Meeting.

The Translation component of Arts Abroad funds the translation of Canadian literary works or dramatic works for international presentation or publication to an artist who is Deaf, hard of hearing, has a disability or is living with a mental illness.

     Acceleration Consortium EDI Initiate Grants support faculty members and trainees in projects, programming, or events that address EDI barriers and challenges.

 

Scholarships and Funding for Underrepresented Groups

Access Programs University Fund (APUF) supports Initiatives that provide students from traditionally underrepresented groups with supports, pathways, structured programs, and/or opportunities to continue learning at the post-secondary level.

The Black Graduate Student Excellence Bursary provides financial support to help improve fair and equitable access to educational opportunities for Black students in graduate studies at the University of Toronto. 

SGS Inclusive Excellence Admissions Scholarships aim to diversify academia by supporting the recruitment of underrepresented groups, specifically first-year Black and Indigenous master’s students to PhD-stream programs.

U of T Provost’s Postdoctoral Fellowship programs provide funding to Graduate Faculties to increase opportunities for hiring postdoctoral fellows from underrepresented groups, specifically Indigenous and Black researchers.

Black Education Fund Scholarships - yearly

NSERC Black Scholars Funding increases support for Black scholars at all university levels.

Indspire's Building Brighter Futures supports First Nations, Inuit, and Métis students. 

RBC Future Launch Scholarship for Indigenous Youth

UTAPS: Out-of-province or First Nations band funding

The Translation component of Arts Abroad funds the translation of Canadian literary works or dramatic works for international presentation or publication to a First Nations, Inuit or Métis artist facing language, geographic and/or cultural barriers.

Canada Post Awards for Indigenous Students gives $2,000 grants to Indigenous Peoples who have renewed their educational learning. 

The Métis Nation of Ontario Bursary is for Indigenous students who are residents of Ontario and is intended to cover unmet educational costs based on financial need.

The China Scholarship Council Scholarship offers funding to outstanding Chinese students who will pursue doctoral or postdoctoral studies at U of T.

President’s Award for Outstanding Indigenous Student of the Year

New Medieval Literatures Scholars of Colour Essay Prize, awarded biennially, is designed to recognize work that contributes to a more inclusive discipline of Medieval Studies.
