A Bookmaker's Introduction to Historical Manuscript Binding
When and Where
Speakers
Description
Presented by the Old Books New Science Lab directed by Alexandra Gillespie here at U of T, and the Mellon-funded grant project “Hidden Stories: New Approaches to the Local and Global History of the Book,” local bookbinder Don Taylor will be giving an introduction to historical bookmaking techniques from his perspective as a conservator and maker. This may be of interest to those of you who study medieval manuscripts but wish you knew more about how they were made!
Snacks and coffee will be provided, and there will be some historical books and bindings as well as modern models for us to examine (not near the coffee/snacks). The presentation will last about 45 minutes, followed by a Q&A.
