Description

Old English stæfcræft and second-language acquisition methods: teaching Old English in a communicative, global context

Presented By

Donna Beth Ellard, Associate Professor, University of Denver
Trisha Teig, Adjunct Professor, University of Denver

Abstract

In this talk, Drs. Ellard and Teig overview qualitative and quantitative data from an ongoing research study that examines the impact of teaching Old English language according to second-language acquisition methods. Initial findings from these data suggests that communicative approaches not only positively impact student perceptions of community, social outlook towards one another in the classroom, and emotional engagement with language, but also open the language to a wider and more diverse learning community.
