The CMS Alumni Lecture series, now in its second year, has been part of an initiative to strengthen the relationships between CMS alumni and current graduate students. As part of that same initiative, we announce the establishment of CMS’s Alumni Dissertation Award. This award will be presented annually – starting at next fall’s Alumni Lecture – to the most distinguished dissertation defended by a CMS student during the previous academic year. The adjudication of the Alumni Dissertation Award will – appropriately – be carried out by a three-person committee made up of CMS alumni. This award provides yet another opportunity to strengthen our wider CMS community – not just those who are on campus right now, but the *virtual* CMS community that reaches back to the establishment of the Centre in 1964 and which will, we hope, go on far into the future.
